Updated: Jul 24

Match Report

T20 Zurich Super Lions vs Zurich Cricket Club-2, Embrach, 19th  July 2025

T20 Game 5: Super Lions proved why they are a force to reckon, after an allround team performance against Zurich Cricket CC-2 and getting a well-deserved victory by 7 wickets.

Competition: Cricketer Pro Cup T20 Competition (Division-II)

Venue: Embrach

Date & Time: 19th July 2025 | 1445 hrs CET

Toss: Zurich Cricket CC-2 won the toss and opted to bat first.

Result: Zurich Super Lions won by 7 wickets.

1st Innings: Super Lions went all guns blazing, dismantling every plan made by ZCCC-2 batsmen restricting them to a meek score of 123 in 20 overs.

There is a saying by Mike Tyson “Everyone has a plan till they get punched”. Winning the toss by ZCCC-2 captain and inviting SL to bowl was proven a dreaded mistake as SL bowler seemed to have embraced Tyson’s saying to the core. The opening spells by Srini, Adil and Deon were too hot to handle and ZCCC-2 batsmen seemed submissive to that. Adil cashed in this opportunity and delivered a maiden in his first over which is considered a gold dust in fast paced T20 cricket. Srini made the balls talk with unplayable swing and Deon & Adil on the other side were firing bullets. ZCCC-2 found scoring difficult and were able to put only 51-5 by the end of 12.2 overs. However, Switzerland's weather decided to take a turn from better to worse which opened an opportunity for ZCCC-2 batsmen and Parewiz made full use of this condition. With rain pouring and ball getting wet, he scored a quick fire 44 of 27 balls with 7*4s and 1*6 and finally caught behind by a superb ball from Srini.  Sara, although finding it difficult to grip the wet ball, built a spin web and remaining ZCC batsmen remained tangled in it. Courtesy to Parewiz and Nicolas’s innings and tight spells by SL bowlers, ZCCC-2 was able to mount a total of 123 in 20 overs. SLs bowler’s atrocity could be determined from the fact that only 3 batsmen were able to score runs in double digit.

2nd Innings: SL batsmen made merry of the situation created by their bowlers and Minal’s back to back half century put icing on the cake as SL chased the target in just 16.1 overs with 7 wickets remaining.

With 124 on the board, SL decided to go berserk in chasing and Minal became the torch bearer by scoring yet another half century (51 runs of 37 balls 9*4s 1*6s).Although ZCCC-2 saw back of Prasanth very early when Abdullah got him out in the 3rd over, SL never bowed before the pressure and Umair’s first ball boundary was the testament of it. Umair and Minal stitched a 70 runs partnership for 2nd wicket before Umair getting out on well made 24 of 19 with 5*4s. Minal got out as soon as he finished his half century when the scoreboard was reading 86-3 in 10.4 overs, bringing Sara and Lokesh on the crease. Both started a cautious approach only to bring some luscious drives by Lokesh and gritty boundaries by Sara. They steadied the ship and brought the team home with a comfortable 7 wickets victory.

Summary

After a heartbreaking last weekend, Super Lions brought their A game to the field with bowlers breathing fire and batsmen scoring runs for fun. With Srini (4-0-17-2) and Sara (4-0-17-2) getting 2 wickets each and Minal and Umair scoring at blistering pace, it all looked well spent outing for Super Lions as they clinched a 7 wickets victory against ZCCC-2. Hope they take this momentum forward in their rest of the games.
