CSRL Game 4: Sarfaraz and Minal’s heroic contribution went in vain as Zurich Super Lions were handed a crushing defeat of 74 runs by Zurich Mavericks

Toss: Super Lions CC won the toss and opted to bowl first.

Result: Zurich Mavericks won by 74 runs.

Ankush Panwar (Mavericks): 21 Runs/40 Balls (1*4s ) and 3 Wickets

1st Innings: Zurich Mavericks off to a blazing start but a strong comeback from Super Lions bowlers restricted them to 224 in 39 overs.

Winning the toss by super lions captain and electing to bowl was proven costly as Mavericks openers went all guns blazing scoring a quick fire 63 in first 5 overs. When things were looking ominous, Sara, Adil and Freddie calmed the storm and then came Sarfaraz to the rescue by getting rid of both openers in his first over. Mavericks went on to stich another 50 run partnership which was again broken with Ankush getting bowled by Sarfaraz on a slower delivery. Other bowlers came to party by chipping in few quick wickets courtesy to some very good fielding and catching by Super Lions fielders. With strong bowling by Sara, Srini, Freddie and Adil in middle overs, things started to look positive for super lions however the runs continue to come for Mavericks in singles / doubles , if not boundaries. Riding on confidence, Sarfaraz wrapped up Mavericks’s inning by taking two wickets in the 39^th over which resulting in him getting a well deserved fifer (8 overs, 44-5).

2nd Innings: Batting woes continue for the Super Lions albeit Minal (the lone warrior), scoring only 150-10 in 33 overs resulting in 74 runs defeat.

With 224 on the board, Mavericks came super charged on the ground to defend it. Super Lions openers Minal and Prashanth were needed to provide a strong start in response to the mammoth total posted by Mavericks. However things did not as planned for Super Lions as they lost Prashanth in 5^th Over when the total was 18 on the board. Minal tried to steady the ship with some quick fire boundaries but was not getting any support from rest of the SL batsmen. SL lost half of the team for mere 88 in 18^th over. After drinks, wickets continue to tumble for SL from one end although Minal was standing like a lone warrior from the other end. However continuous pressure creeped in Minal psyche as well causing his downfall at a blistering inning of 71 runs of 75 balls (2*4 and 7*6) with scoreboard reading 144. Rest of the batsmen followed dominoes effect and finally could mount a meagre score of 150 all out.

Summary

Sarfaraz’s valor in bowling and Minal’s resilience in batting proved to be the only silver line in dark cloud for Super Lions.

While Sarfaraz claimed a fifer, he was well supported by Freddie and Srini claiming 2 wickets each.
