CSRL Game 2: The Sun Was Blazing, so was Sara's Bat as Super Lions Edge Zurich Crickets CC-II in Thrilling Two-Wicket Win


Competition: Cricket Switzerland Regional League (CSRL)

Venue: Deutweg, Winterthur

Date & Time: 21 June 2025 | 1230 hrs CET

Toss: Zurich Crickets CC won the toss and opted to bat first. 

Result: Super Lions won by 2 wickets

 

MVP & Player of the Match

Sara lit up the game with a blazing unbeaten 78 (8 fours, 3 sixes) and made an impact with the ball, grabbing 2 wickets in 7 fiery overs!

 

Zurich Crickets CC-2 scored 181 all out, with Dirushaan Prabakar hitting 52. Below-average and sloppy fielding by Super Lions fielders, including 10 dropped catches, allowed ZCCC-II to reach this formidable total. Zurich Super Lions chased it down, finishing 183/8 with Saravanakumar Subramani unbeaten on 78. A key 50-run partnership with Mohd Sarfaraz Ahmad helped secure a 2-wicket win. Extras added 33 runs in the chase.

 

1st Innings: Zurich Crickets stumbled early, recovered briefly, and reached 181 as Super Lions’ fielders dropped chances to keep ZCCC-II in the Game

 

The Sun was blazing at the Winterhtur ground and after winning the toss ZCCC-II decided to bat first. The decision that came into question as Aditya and Adil sent Navroz and Tasal back to pavilion in the first two overs (5/2 in 1.3 overs). Super Lions bowlers were coming in hot and created another chance in the 3rd over but unfortunately that was put down. The fielding was very sloppy, and ZCCC-II capitalized as the batters added a crucial third-wicket stand of 51 runs between Sai and Fayez. Fayez departed soon after with the score at 101 in the 21st over. The middle order provided some resistance, but wickets continued to fall at regular intervals after the drinks break. Nicolas was caught by Captain Loki in 21st over (132/5). Followed by two back to back wickets by Adil as Parewiz and Callum departed in 30th over (154/7). Dirushaan kept his calm and scored 53 runs (7/4s and 2/6s). The innings quickly wrapped up with Arkan falling at 178 (bowled by Sara) and Bashir (stumped) being the final wicket at 181 in the 35th over.


Dirushaan was the top scorer for ZCCC-II with 53 runs (7/4s and 2/6s).

Adil picked 3 magnificent wickets and Aditya, Sara and Amit shared 2 wickets each for Super Lions

 

2nd Innings: Sara kept cool under pressure with unbeaten 78 runs, Matchwinner for Super Lions

 

In response, Zurich Super Lions CC openers Amit and Prashant started steadily under the blazing heat. In 3rd over, Prashant was adjudged LBW (15/1). Minal and Amit added 29 Runs for the 2nd wickets, when a fantastic catch by Sai sent Amit back to pavilion in 9th over (44/2). Sara entered the ground and was in superb form, that did not give any respite to ZCCC-II bowlers. He tempo was unhitched and kept his cool as Minal and Loki both were dismissed in 19th over (95/4). Sara and Sam added the most valuable 5th wicket partnership of 50 runs as Sam was bowled at 151-5 in 30 over. Sara reached his half century with stylish SIX . Merely 31 runs needed with 5 wickets in hand, Super Lions were moving forward to conformable win. In a shock, ZCCC-blowers bolted pressure and 3 Super Lions batters, Freddie (161-6), Aditya (167/7) and Jaspal (170/8) was off to the pavilion at the end of 37th overs. 10 runs to win and 2 wickets in hands, Sara sent a full toss off the boundary and in next over, Adil hit a magnificent winning boundary. Throughout the innings, Sara kept his end and anchored the innings with a superb knock of 78 not out.
