Fletcher & Co. dismantle Power WCC as Lions storm to a 9 wicket win

CSPL 2025 – League Match | Deutweg, Winterthur | July 13, 2025

📍 Venue: Deutweg, Winterthur

📅 Date: July 13, 2025

🪙 Toss: Power WCC won the toss, opted to bat

On a relatively cool morning at Deutweg, Power WCC captain Afzaal Sikander won the toss and backed his batters to set a target. In hindsight, it may have been the only moment Power WCC held any control over the game. What followed was a bowling display as clinical as it was merciless.

First Innings: Lions’ Bowlers Run Riot as Power WCC Collapse for 55

When Power WCC decided to bat first, they wouldn’t have imagined their innings unravelling so dramatically. But in supportive Winterthur conditions, Zurich Lions’ bowlers wasted no time in asserting dominance.

Fletcher was simply unplayable with the new ball. Operating with precision and venom, he ripped through the top order like a man on a mission, getting both seam and swing to talk in equal measure. He opened the floodgates with an early lbw and never looked back.  His spell of 6-1-16-3 was the defining passage of the innings. Captain Kanishk  (4-0-14-2) wasn’t far behind. Bowling in tandem with Fletcher, he used subtle variations and attacking fields to break into the middle order.

From there, Mayur stepped in and polished off the lower middle order with a tight spell of 3-0-10-3. He used the angles well, attacked the stumps, and was rewarded for his attacking lines.

Osama and Shirzad added the final touches, claiming one wicket apiece, as Power WCC crumbled to 55 all out in 16.3 overs  a total that was well below par in any format.

Only Danish Rasheed (19 off 19 balls) showed any intent with the bat, striking a six and a boundary. But with no partnerships of note, Power WCC never looked like posting a contestable total as seven batters failed to reach double digits.

Second Innings: Kanishk, Ankush Ease Lions to Victory in 6.5 Overs

Zurich Lions came out to chase a small target but did so with the precision and professionalism. Chasing 56 was never going to challenge a side of Lion's depth. But what stood out was how professionally they went about it.

Ankush took the aggressive route early, hammering a quickfire 23 off 14 balls, setting the tone. His strokeplay was crisp, clearing the infield with ease and forcing the bowlers off their lengths. At the other end, Skipper Kanishk stayed calm, anchored the innings, and steered the side home with a composed 24 off 22 balls*. The chase was over in 6.5 overs, underlining Zurich’s dominance across both innings.

It was a chase that never looked in doubt, with the Lions' top order showing the same poise that their bowlers had demonstrated earlier.

🗣️ Captain’s Corner – Kanishk Shah:

"We spoke last week about bouncing back with intent. This is the kind of performance you dream of; ruthless with the ball, sharp in the field, and clean in the chase. Credit to the entire team. We knew we had to bounce back strong, and this was exactly the response we wanted"
"We just need to carry the momentum and be consistent, In the short term we are as good as our intensity, In the long term we are as good as our consistency”
