Disappointing result for Zurich Super Lions CC (ZSLCC) in the Season 2025 T20 opener match against Mavericks CC, Embrach, 04 May 2025
Mavericks CC Outplayed Zurich Super Lions and recorded a 25 Runs victory.
Naseem Safi (ZSLCC) turned heads with a brilliant spell, picking up 6 wickets for just 12 runs in 2.4 overs – a standout performance despite ending on the losing side.

In an overcast condition, Zurich Super Lions CC and Mavericks CC kicked off their Season 2025, with Cricket Switzerland Cricketer Pro Cup T20 Competition (Division-II) in Embrach. Winning the toss, Mavericks opted to Bat first. Mavericks openers made a field day for Super Lions bowlers as fielders were there only to fetch the ball from the boundary lines. Openers, Abhishek Shukla blazed 54 runs off 34 balls, (4s/7 and 6s/2 sixes /SR: 158.82) and Ankush Panwar, 32 runs off 25 balls (4s/4 and 6s/1). The pair made sure that Mavericks got off to a flying start.
Super Lions fast bowling trio, Shrini, Freddie and Adil, could not contain, Mavericks opening batsman, to cut the free flowing runs, Loki, ZSLCC captain introduced spin attack and it came in handy as Mavericks lost Ankush’s wicket (stumped) at 87 runs in 8.4 overs. Mavericks reached 100 runs in 10.1 overs. With 9 wickets in hand, and 10 overs to follow, Mavericks were in the stronghold to reach around 200 in their 20 overs.
Mavericks lost their second wicket, Abhishek, at 108 runs in 11.2 overs. This led to open flood gates for Super Lions star Spinner Naseem claimed 6 wickets in 2.3 overs for just 12 runs. Between 12-16 overs, Mavericks lost 7 wickets and managed to add 23 runs. Naseem (6 wickets), Sara (2 wickets) and Amit (1 wicket), Super Lions spinners shared 9 wickets in 12 overs for 59 Runs.
Extras: 20 (including 19 wides, 1 no-ball) – a significant contribution to the total. Mavericks posted a competitive 133/10 runs in 16.4 overs.
2nd Innings: Super Lions set up to the challenging task
Clouds, consistent rain, damp outfield, and Mavericks’ fierce and strategized bowling attack, made it harder for the Super Lions batsman to chase down the target. Prashanth was adjudged LBW on the very 5th ball of the inning (1/1 score). Amit and Arnab tried to build partnership, but Amit was stumped at the end of 4th over (28-2). Arnab followed Amit and came back to the pavilion in the 8th over at 39-3. Sara and Loki put up a strong partnership off 33 runs of 36 balls. Looking at the required rate, Loki tried to increase the momentum but was perished in 13th over at 72-4. At this stage, Super Lions were still in the game with Sara and Deon at the pitch, and needed 62 runs off 42 balls, with 6 wickets in hand.
Mavericks made sure that the required rate goes beyond Super Lions batter reach as wickets constantly tumbling down. Super Lions needed a couple of big overs to bring the asking rate down but lost Dion (81/5, 15.1 overs), Sam (102/6, 18.1 overs) and Sara (103/7, 18.1 overs). Finally Super Lions struggled to gain momentum during any phase of the game and were restricted to 108/9 in 20 overs.
Qasem and Srikanth from Mavericks were clinical with the ball, taking 2 wickets each.
Sara was top scorer for Super Lions, 27 Runs off 42 balls (4s/2 and 6s/1) followed by Loki, 19 runs off 21 balls (4s/1 and 6s/1)
