Date : 27-06-2021, 11:00am CEST
Toss : St. Gallen Cricket Club, SGCC won the toss and elected to Bat
Ground : Sportfeld Grundenmoos, St Gallen
Zurich lions started well with the ball when St. Gallen lost the wicket in very first over bowled by Kanishk.
St. Gallen CC batsman Haroon was in the center where all other were expected to play and a steady start of powerplay read 6 overs 40/1. Good bowling change by lions brought Freddie into the attack and he rocked St. Gallen giving 2 jolts in an outstanding over making the scorecard read 10 overs 70/3. Some good line and length until the halfway mark from Lions though some sloppy work in field.
St. Gallen was expected to change gears and then Zurich Lions bowlers did not adapt well and leaked a lot of runs in second half of the innings especially in the last few death overs. Lion’s bowlers did the same mistake that is feeding the line of the moving batsmen and making their life easier to hit straight to a very small boundary. Nevertheless, those balls still had to be put away and St. Gallen made full use of it making 120 odd runs in last 10 overs. Haroon made a century. Not being harsh on bowlers but some lack of sense and wrong length. Such onslaught at the end made sure St. Gallen reaches 20 overs 196/5.
Time for a break – 10 mins. Second innings to start.
Ankush and Kanishk started well in a tough chase but St. Gallen’s strength is their quick fast bowlers. Lions were cautious to see them of Ankush hit some good shots before Kanishk was out cheaply. Playing on the wrong lines costed Zurich lion’s batsmen couple of more wickets of Senthil, Mayur when the scorecard read 41/4 at the end of 7 overs and it was an uphill task to chase remaining. Top order had collapsed who won Lions a lot of matches however the lack of firepower and hesitant in intent in the middle overs made lions never in the hunt therefore a chase was getting out of question. Sheshu, Loki and Sara tried to salvage some pride where, Sheshu played a fine cameo to get lions close to respectable total.
The influence of the top and middle order has been impacted heavily, and it is not easy to feel good or capable of fulfilling our full potential if our emotional well-being of the team is not whole. No matter how skillful players are but the lack of intent and belief at times are going to be a roadblock for the lions in the season. Time to shifts things around quickly, re-group together and come back to the bright and the right side of the game quickly.
Chin up, never mind. Lions will practice hard and turn the fortunes. Bounce back onto another one when Lions will play 2 T- 20 matches on Sunday 11th July 2021 in Embrach.
Until then take care!
