Match info:

Date : 21-05-2022, 1200 CEST

Toss : ZLCC won the toss and elected to bat first

Ground : Deutweg, Winterthur Cricket Ground

Match begins:

Zurich lions are in huddle and they are all pumped up to go. Ankush and Kanishk started the proceedings for ZLCC batting and started going from first over. Both were going at bad balls and runs were coming by steadily. In 9th over Kanishk got out the scoreboard was 9 overs 72/1. Sheshu was sent up in the order but he got out cheaply as well for 0 and board read 10 overs 74/1. Meanwhile Ankush hit couple of sixes and raced into 40s before getting out on 45 (2 sixes, 4 fours) in 12nd over score was 85/3. Mayur too got out soon in 14th over to up the ante – scoreboard was 96/4. Senthil was joined by Sara; both of them played some scintillating shots and changed gears. Senthil made 37 (4 sixes) and when he got out in 18th over the score was 138/5. Sara played a wonderful cameo which was long time coming, he hit some great shots and was ably supported by Sarfaraz. The duo added 31 runs in just 12 balls to move the score to a challenging 169/5 in 20 over quota. This will be a tricky chase as the outfield is slow and odd balls are sticking to the surface. Take no credit away from batters of ZLCC who batted sensibly first and then bolstered the run rate in last 5 overs.

Time for a break – 10 mins. Second innings to start.

Sonu started the bowling for ZLCC while Max and Bilal opened for ZCC2. Kanishk struck in the 2nd over when Max was caught by Amit behind the wicket and scoreboard was 3/1. ZCC2 batters went into backfoot by the early wicket and tried to build a partnership before Senthil got Jude caught by Sara, in 8th over the scoreboard was 32/2. Middle over bowlers from ZLCC did not allow ZCC to score runs freely.

Gokul came to join Bilal where he was reprieved early when a catch went out but Snehil got him in the same over as he was caught by Omed. The scoreboard was 46/3 in 9 overs. The chase was getting difficult and ZLCC bowlers were tightening up the screws. Bilal’s patient innings came to an end when he was caught by Sara in Mayur’s bowling before he made 18 the board read 65/4 in 12 overs. 8 overs and 105 runs were needed at approx. 13rpo. But ZCC2 never got going in front of the disciplined bowling attack of ZLCC. Wicket’s kept falling after 40 runs partnership between Abdulla & Vincent as the board read 17 overs 106/5. Vincent played a lone handy innings of 43 runs before the chase was all but over. With 3 run outs eventually ZCC2 ended up with 128/8 in their 20 overs and eventually bowing out to ZLCC.

ZLCC won the match by 41 runs as this was yet another display of disciplined bowling. Batting with “Caution-with-aggression” approach and capitalized on the partnerships. ZLCC were scheduled to play against Power Winterthur CC next day (Sunday 22.05.2022) in CSPL-40 overs trophy.
