Zurich Crickets II won the toss and decided to bowl first. In a change of pursuit, Zurich lions started batting first. Heavily overcast conditions and due to lot of rain the outfield was quite wet and slow and while batting dark clouds hovering above meant a lot of help to the swing bowlers which is why Zurich crickets chose to ball. Making their captain’s decision correct the open of Lions Ankush fell cheaply.
Mayank was promoted at Nr. 3, based on good practice sessions. He and Kanishk built the innings before Mayank was out the scoreboard read 4.2 overs 29/2.
Sheshu and Kanishk batted wonderfully where the former continued his impressive run for 26 & Kanishk for well made 29. Senthil & Mayur took the baton & played sensibly. Even though the Zurich crickets team is an emerging team, the young guys bowled well and Shankar was in pick of the wickets where he took 6 wickets.
Senthil made 31 and Mayur 17 and some late tail blows ensured the target was set 150 which was not too great but given the weather conditions it was a challenging total.
Time for a break – 10 mins. Second innings to start.
Sonu and Kanishk started the bowling for lions and Zurich crickets were happy to see off first few overs. Mayur took the first wicket when he bowled Bilal. Snehil drew the second blood when he got another one. Lions bowlers were disciplined and tightened the screws however due to wet outfield there were some sloppy give away runs. Sonu came back to the attack in 13th over and took a brilliant hattrick as he was unplayable and continues his impressive performances. Zurich crickets never looked in the chase however last wicket partnership did add some runs to rub salt to the wound to the lions who once thought they could finish Zurich Cricket innings when the scorecard was 79/9. In the end Zurich cricket finished their innings at 112/10 and Zurich lions won by 37 runs.
While Zurich lions can be happy with the win and the points, they must be infuriated that they should have finished a bit clinically. A lot will depend on the net run rate after the pool matches finishes for the qualification rounds and finishing quickly is one areas we must focus on. The job is not done until it’s completely done, Lions will be wary of being complacent and will improve those little areas to tidy up.

Time for the 90 balls series in Winterthur on Wednesday 21st July. Thereafter a crucial week when we play against Zurich crickets I on 31st July and just a day after on 01st Aug 40 overs CSNL league match against Zug CC. Time for a breather, group together and work a bit on those tiny little improvement areas.
