Ground : Deutweg-Winterthur

“Pressure is a privilege” and in a crucial match Zurich lions completely dominated Zurich Crickets CC 1st to achieve their third win of the season in Pickwick T-20 tournament.

Zurich Crickets chose to bat first after winning the toss. Lion’s bowlers were extraordinary in the first powerplay when ZCCC I could not get to a flyer. And in 6th over when Mayur took first wicket having taken a spectacular catch on his own bowling, the scorecard read 6-27/1. ZCCC I opener were cramped for room and runs were hard to come by. Lions entire bowling unit were extremely well supported by brilliant fielding when a superb throw from Snehil caught Baljeet short of run. End of 10 overs 61/2. The grit, determination and the intensity shown by whole Lions team was exemplary. ZCCC I batsmen were tied to the foot and were not allowed to free their arms, Prafull was judged LBW on an edge of the bat but great sportsmanship and sprit shown by Lions called him back. Only he could make 35 before Sara caught him brilliantly on Sonu’s bowling. Mayur took another blinder in point, which gave back-to-back wicket to Sonu in the same over. Another outstanding catch of Gokul by Amit behind the wicket on Omi’s excellent bowling had left no room for ZCCC I to get away to any threating total.

Scorecard read 15 Overs 94/5. In death overs, also, Lions bowlers were tremendous and they kept tiding up runs added by some great ground fielding and catching. Eventually ZCCC 1 could only muster 130/7 in their 20 overs.

Time for a break – 10 mins. Second innings to start.

Ankush and Kanishk started the chase in a positive note where Ankush hit couple of great boundaries before he was run out for 13 runs where he and Kanishk had a horrible mix up.

Kanishk (left) & Ankush (right)

Scorecard read 3-27/1 and it was ticking nicely on with 9 rpo. Mayank joined in middle and duo played some great shots. Both upped the ante and put the pedal on the gas where they hit some lusty sixes and boundaries were coming. Before Mayank was caught, he made good 14 runs. Kanishk played some outstanding shots and was really looked in fabulous touch. Lions were looking comfortable in the chase and never let the run rate go up or took any unnecessary risks; however, what was different today was the intentions where they did not bog down if the wickets were falling. Kanishk made a wonderful 45 (5 4s, 2 6s) and the scoreboard was 94/3 after 10 overs. He had done a great job. Sheshu, Senthil, Mayur, Sara all of the middle order batsmen made handy contributions in the win; where lions were looking to improve their run rate, which becomes crucial in the last stages half of the competition. Change in mindset was evident, as even though they lost wickets they did not let the innings slow down. In the end, Zurich Lions successfully chased down the target in 14.4 overs with 4 wickets to spare. It was a great display of determination and intensity to win by Lion’s.

A big round of applause for the entire bowling unit who did extraordinarily well to restrict the ZCC and then later the batsmen did the job with full of oomph and aplomb. Wonderful teamwork.

Well done Lions !!!
